Whattup fools,
Ya'll know me. You know that I don't usually f with radio music. If I do listen to the radio, you know I'm not listening to any on-air hip hop. On top of that, I don't have cable so I don't f with music videos either. With that being written, I currently believe that rap's reigning king is Lil' Wayne. I don't however, believe that there are not good arguments to the contrary. However, I'll let you suppy those.
While at a nightclub (While everyone was dancing uncontrollably to "Lillipop"), I was discussing this point with two friends. One of these being a die-hard Nas street disciple, the other being a dirrty south loyalist. The Nas disciple said that he always thought that east coast rappers had the best mix of street grime, lyrics, and raw production. However, he could not name four rappers that are as on top of their games right now as Lil' Wayne, T.I., Andre 3000, and Bun B. These dudes enjoy commercial success, but they are all sick ass mc's.
I submit that Lil' Wayne is holding the crown and in position to swing an iron mallet at the frozen commercial hip-hop world with the June release of "The Carter 3." If he does this right, he could bring me back to 1996 and 1997 when every car you heard was bumping some song off "All Eyez on Me" or some song off "Atliens" or some song off "Life After Death" or some song off "Makiaveli." When Carter 3 drops, everyone from wierdo suits like me, to cholos, to fake thugs, to babymama's, to cute chicks in Honda's will be taking it in. That is what the best in the game does. They make you wait for their album, and then live up to the all the hype when they hit you with it.
More generally, the south is running the game right now. That's it for now. I'll entertain questions, comments, and concerns at this time.

of course, i agree, he is the mutherfuckin best
ya'll kno i am a major fan. my only concern is overexposure. with weezey doing his stream of conciousness flow over every beat known to man on mixtapes, i wonder about the quality control. hopefully someone from the label is on that and as t-wheeze predicts.....carter 3 will be the truth....ya'll know i got that shit on pre order, copies on request.
huster muzik in the white escort...so gangsta...ya dig???
p.s. the 4 albums mentioned by slimstar....so neccessary
remember '96???!!!
wow... formative year. makavelli was the shit..."i had sex with your wife, not in those words"
I have to agree with weezey being on top right now. For example, I was driving to a call with my GM of a TV station from Montgomery, AL yesterday, and the following took place....I generally tune into a top 40 radio station in Atlanta when riding with a client (radiohead/ DMB/Chris Brown...you get the picture). As I was driving my late 40's, bars and stars having, southern old money, loves the ROLL TIDE, divorcee station guy turns up my radio. Why you ask? His #1 jam of the week is Lollipop. Lil Wayne has crossed over to every demographic. For this my hats off to him.
No offense to the fans, but am I the only person in the world who thinks lil wayne is annoying? Me nuh like him. In fact, when I hear his flow I come close to convulsions. But that said, he's still not as bad as young jeezy.
You know where i think the crown sits. No MC is fucking with Black Thought. Why you think nobody invites him to do guest spots? because they don't wanna get shown up. He's the best, no doubt.
And i'll take my dirty south music well-aged, a la 1995-1998 Goodie Mob, Outkast, Cee Lo (when he actually raps), etc.
dj semtex's show was hot this week.
some good tracks :
"taste" by pacific division
"hi- definition" by lupe fiasco feat snoop
okay weezey has done it again. I'm sorry but "milli" is the hotest song ever!!!! He takes it back to bass lines and raw freestyle tallent. Remember when Rap City used to have people spit in the booth? Wayne to it back to streets and keeps it so real. Any time a well know DJ plays it 5x in a night in the club and nobody complains or send death threats it is the hotness.

Lil Wayne v. Black Thought
Hmmmmmmm. This is a good discussion. This reminds me of our talks about whether a 8 foot grizzly bear could defeat a lion.
Its tough to compare the two because I myself often take BT for granted, but he kills everything that he's on. His drawback is that he can bore me at times with his grimey street-level tone. Additionally his crew has been unable to get anything on the radio lately. I think this may be say more about the radio stations then it does about them.
Weezy has been around for a long while, but right now he is better than he has been before. He is also more compatible with mainstream hip hop while often getting underground props for his freestyle prowess. That point probably ties in with this one. He may be Can-i-bus like in that he has nice punchlines and a nice flow but he does not pick his topics well. I have not heard him talk about anything that a million other rappers have not talked about.
I have heard his artistic-introspective songs but he does not have too many of them. In order for him to be amongst the all-time greats in my eyes he has to hit this zone at some point. I think he should put "Georgia Bush" from his mix tape on the Carter 3 as a bonus track.
I'll give you my O'Conner here: Black Thought gets the nod for all-time significance. Weezy gets the nod for current significance and he is way below BT all-time wise.
I just got home from a week in Jamaica. I liked Dancehall music before, but now it's bordering on obsessive. I have the dancehall game on lockdown, so if anyone needs some new dancehall, get at me. and if anyone wants to discuss, let's start a thread. yuh don know.
i am listening to d.j semtex right now and he's got the world primere of the carter 3 ...i just listenes to "mr carter" and i give it 5 stars. this internet radio show is insane, ya'll need to check it if you get a minute..the 4 songs i've heard that were non-wayne were tight too, including
a tight alternative song from common "universal mind control"
and one off the new bun b albulm with lupe fiasco...that album is gonna be hot .
back to wheezy..stay tuned for the post semtex wrap-up
ok, first and foremost, semtex is talking ridiculous shit here "i'm like highlander, there can only be one" awesome. somehow he got the blessing to be the first to spin these songs. you need to listen to this show this week! they take the show down thursday night.
ok. on to the songs 8 songs off the album played, only didn't feel one, the david banner produced cut, but maybe it would grow on me. the others are very, very solid. no one can come at his head right now. all different styles, chameleon ability to ride the beat, smart lyrics and punchlines, less coke talkin', and a couple are simply fucking retarded in the best way. (phone home)
buy it!
oh, and slim, your wish (georgia bush) was bested with a track called "tie my hands" feat. robin thicke
oh, and adam, you are wrong. sorry.
so sorry, but now i gotta say will. i. am. is blowing my mind right now...watch out for "black einstein"
Shady Bloggers,
Here is that link to the show:

It's also in the links section. Get wit' it asap. It took away my equilibrium and I was falling out like Buster's girlfriend Lucille on Arrested Development.
