Dancehall--Ill or Unintelligible?

Adam says he wants to discuss Dancehall. In short I can't get with it because I have no idea what they are talking about most of the time. I much prefer Roots Reggae where the vocalist sings slowly and allows you to understand what they are saying. That's pretty much my only beef with Dancehall aside from the commercial offshoots thereof.

I can't understand it either, but the music is infectious. I listen to reggaeton and I can't understand that fast-ass spanish. I listen to punjabi music and I can't understand punjabi. The music just overpowers the words. Keep in mind, that is the same thing some people used to say about hip hop.

Roots reggae and dub are great too. For a car ride or lounging, not much better. But for a club? for a party? dancehall gets the whole place hype.

I would offer to put together a mix for everyone, but we all know how that will end.

Anyone have any thoughts on better club music? Reggaeton and soca also get the club going, but i can't listen to soca outside a club because it annoys me.

I feel you Adam and I am guilty of listening to other music that I can't understand. I also can't argue with the fact that this stuff goes nuts in the club.

However, I like mix of upbeat roots reggae and dancehall.

This topics gets me thinking back to those crazy nights at the Dragon's Den in New Orleans. The room thick with people, heavy reggae rhythms, and heavy smoke. Find this place if you are ever in New Orleans on a Wednesday night and reschedule everything you have planned for Thursday. The DJ does not f about.
