Alright y'all, it's Adam, head-butting fools and taking over the blog reins for a new topic.
Since we've established how much I hate longevity, I thought I'd introduce a topic that ignores it completely. Greatest Album of All Time. Everyone has their favorites, and everyone else usually disagrees. This is prime argument fodder. The absolute greatest album of all time, from any genre and from any time period. It could be a one-hit-wonder album or a gem from an established artist. If you absolutely must qualify your answers with second and third place listings, go ahead, but think hard about this one. If you come with some bullsh*t, you WILL be clowned no matter how strongly you feel about Yanni.
I'm still debating my answer to this one but I wanted to throw the question out there so everyone else could simmer on it for a while, too. I'll throw my answer in the comments below once I make a decision.

"whoa...sensory overload...whoever put that question is a premature ejaculator" my friend matt (who knows his music) when i told him about about the new question.
i concur. too massive a topic. how can you compare jimi to miles to beasties to snoop to pixies to willie nelson to beatles to guns n roses.... think we should take baby steps here for maximum debate...one genre or subgenre at a time fellas. thats my vote.
bitches brew popped into my head when i read the question.
BL
As messed up as this sounds, I feel the same way. I've been trying to narrow it down but it's hard. If we break it down into genres it's almost too easy. I'm torn...and I think I just ejaculated prematurely. Although I don't believe in that. "When I come, it was RIIIGHT ON TIME!!" --dave chappelle.
I'm gonna need some time with this one. Right now I'm thinking Me Against the World by Pac.
I don't freaking know Adam! I going to have to come with a list of my favorites in a couple of days. I like the topic because I have been looking to get some ill albums from genres that I am weaker on.
I'm looking for leads on a rock album right now. I am just getting into Radiohead and I'm loving them. I am also listening to some of the artists from Omaha (Bright Eyes etc.) but even O.NE pride isn't getting me that into them. Someone, anyone please drop the greatest rock album of all time on me.
Let's take a month or so and march through this topic.
check out appitite for destruction by guns and roses
If you are looking for the greatest album of all-time...I am no help. For Slim O.NE, if you are starting to feel Radiohead then pick-up The Beatles Album Revolver or Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation (though the most rock out SY album is Dirty.) Greatest rock album of all time? Revolver gets my pick for GRAOAT (Though Sgt. Pepper's is always the more popular Beatles Album)
Originally, I was thinking Innervisions by Stevie. I also gave strong consideration to D'Angelo's Voodoo. I can throw on either of these albums and listen start to finish without a second thought.
For Jazz/Blues I'm partial to Coltrane's Giant Steps or Ole. Thanks to my grunge past, I'll give the rock album nod to Pearl Jam's Ten.
Hip Hop: I go back and forth between Smif N Wessun - Dah Shinin and Blackstar. If I had to pick one, I'd say Blackstar. Midnight Marauders gets serious consideration, as well as De La's Buhloone Mind State. And just to make it a nice top-5 list, Things Fall Apart -- the Roots is a classic, too.
Thanks Matthew,
I am going to give those albums a listen and then walk back through music history to the origins of the genre. I will let you know when I get to the Mississippi delta.
I saw this great documentary about Atlantic Records. It really tied all that great classic soul and rock to the more recent greats. Here is a link to some site related to that work. http://www.pbs.org/nights/blog/2007/05/american_masters_atlantic_reco_1.html
tim and adam: i think you guys would really like this band called the pixies...you probably heard of 'em already, but if not, thier albums are tight.

Slim O.NE, as for rock, its my newest genre and there is some really good stuff. Currently, I've had The Cure, "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" on heavy rotation. I highly recommend it to newbies because you can hear other bands trying to copy it, woefully.
Tribe Called Quest always rocks it out. But I think nostalgia always plays a part in picking a greatest album. I have good feelings listening to both Tribe and The Cure because growing up in 80s and early 90s everything was all good.
Blackstar is the greatest album of its genre.
Love Supreme, off the hinges. Stan Getz, "A Life in Jazz"...yowzers...puts you in a positive state of mind when you need to be in one.
Bjork's Debut is also on my rotation. Be about it. Check out tracks Venus as a Boy and Human Behaviour and Big Time Sensuality.
Great Topic.
